On May 25, 2026, Morgan Ortego, the 22-year-old mother of 2-year-old twins, was a passenger in a vehicle that was involves in a serious single vehicle crash in Lafayette Parish.
Morgan has been hospitalized in the Our Lady of the Lake Trauma ICU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, since the accident. She sustained numerous serious injuries including a fractured skull, brain trauma, vertebrae injuries, rib fractures on both sides of her chest, broken pelvic bone on right side in several areas, and three (3) separate breaks to the right femur.
Since the accident, Morgan has undergone numerous surgeries to repair the fractures and future surgeries are possible.
While her neurological condition remains inconsistent, her medical team believes that the damaged nerves in her brain have the potential to heal over time, and they remain hopeful for continued progress.
Morgan is the daughter of Mandy Ortego and Major Bill Ortego with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
