Boil Water Advisory Issued for Multiple Areas in Opelousas Due to
Water Main Break
Opelousas, LA (April 24, 2025)– Effective April 24, 2025, the City of Opelousas has issued a boil
water advisory for residents and businesses located in the areas of Live Oak Street, Bocage
Street, London Drive, Judson Walsh, and Ducharme Road. This advisory comes as a result of a
break in a 6-inch water main that has impacted the local water supply.
The Public Works Crew is currently completing the necessary repairs to the water main.
Although the repairs are nearing completion, the boil water advisory has been put into place to
ensure the health and safety of all residents in the affected areas until tests confirm that the
water meets all safety standards.
Residents are advised to follow these precautions:
Boil water vigorously for at least one full minute before consuming or using for cooking,
making ice, brushing teeth, or preparing baby formula.
The advisory remains in effect until further notice, pending confirmation from water quality
tests that the water is safe for regular use.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause and are working diligently to restore safe,
clean water service as quickly as possible. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding
during this time.
Updates on the status of the repairs and the boil water advisory will be provided as they
become available. For more information, residents are encouraged to contact the City of
Opelousas Water Department at 337-948-2527 or visit our website at cityofopelousas.com
