Urgent Water Conservation Notice for Opelousas Residents
Due to the ongoing freezing temperatures, which are expected to persist through Thursday, the City of Opelousas is experiencing critically low water levels and pressure in our system. This is caused by a combination of factors, including damage from frozen and burst pipes, as well as overconsumption and dripping of faucets by customers.
To avoid further water pressure loss and the potential need for a city-wide boil advisory, we urge all residents to immediately cease any unnecessary water usage. This includes:
- Turning off any dripping faucets.
- Refraining from running washing machines and dishwashers.
- Limiting showers and other non-essential water use.
Conserving water at this critical time will help maintain adequate water pressure for essential needs and emergency services.
Stay Off the Roads
Additionally, due to hazardous road conditions, we strongly urge residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Travel is extremely dangerous due to ice and snow.
The City of Opelousas, in partnership with the Opelousas Police Department and St. Landry Parish Government, is working diligently to address these challenges and provide essential services to our residents. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this weather event.
