HIGH GRADE MARIJUANA CONFISCATED IN OPELOUSAS DURING STOPFOR TRAFFIC VIOLATION
According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On February 5, 2024, narcotics detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office received information regarding Dexter Keith Broussard, who was arrested by Opelousas Police Department on February 4th and charged with attempted manslaughter and disturbing the peace. Detectives were advised that Broussard was expecting a package of illegal narcotics to be delivered via delivery service to a residence at the 200 block of Ventre Boulevard, which is within the city limits of Opelousas, LA.”
Upon further investigation, it was learned that Broussard’s girlfriend, Lyric Lanie James, was tasked with accepting the package upon delivery. Detectives established physical surveillance at the residence and observed Lyric James was already on scene. During the surveillance, detectives observed James exit the apartment, and accept a large box from the delivery service driver. James then placed the box in the trunk of her vehicle, and proceeded to depart the area in her vehicle with her two minor children.
Detectives then initiated a traffic stop on Lyric James due to her children being unrestrained in the vehicle. After probable cause was obtained, detectives obtained a search warrant for the package and the residence on Ventre Boulevard. Upon opening the package, detectives discovered two pounds of “moon rocks”, which is an extremely high-grade marijuana.
Detectives also located Dexter Broussard’s wallet in the vehicle which contained $1200.00. Lyric James was in possession of $405.00 in her front right pocket.
On February 5, 2024, Lyric James was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with conspiracy to distribute schedule I CDS (THC “moon rocks”) and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.Dexter Broussard, who was incarcerated at the St. Landry Parish Jail at the time of this incident, received additional charges for conspiracy to distribute schedule I CDS (THC “moon rocks”) and transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
