Opelousas native Ruthie Dugal who has spent over 50 years as a college athlete, high school girls’ coach and statewide official, has been inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame.

Dugal, a multi-sport high school athlete, who graduated from The Academy Of The Immaculate Conception in 1969, was honored with 38 other nationally-recognized high school coaches, at the June 26 Hall of Fame event held in Rapids City, SD.

During her coaching and officiating career, Dugal has served as state president of the Louisiana High School Officials Association and a regional coordinator for college officiating.

During her high school coaching career in Lafayette Parish, Dugal coached basketball, volleyball and softball at Comeaux High School.

Before moving into coaching, Dugal played basketball and volleyball during her collegiate career at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now renamed as The University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
