Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives
were conducting criminal patrol in the area of Pavy Road, north of Opelousas, LA. A Narcotics
Detective spotted a 2015 Kia Optima with illegal window tint and a burnt right taillamp and
initiated a vehicle stop. As a result of the vehicle stop, the driver was recognized from a
previous narcotics arrest in July as Jared Anderson. Sufficient probable cause was established
to effect an arrest and a search of the vehicle. This resulted in the seizure of approximately ¼
lb. of marijuana and approximately 1.25 grams of suspected cocaine.” Sheriff Guidroz
continues, “Pursuant to the arrest, search warrants were obtained for three residences in and
around Opelousas. These search warrants lead to the seizure of 25 firearms, 2 of which are
converted machineguns, another is a suppressed .308 rifle and one with an obliterated serial
number. A total of 4 of these weapons are reported stolen from 4 different agencies.
Approximately just over one pound of suspected marijuana was seized with $ 4,000.00 in U.S.
currency.” Sheriff Guidroz concludes, “We often receive negative comments relative to our
arrests of drug dealers and marijuana. First, possession of illegal narcotics is just that, illegal.
Secondly, marijuana is often laced with other, more deadly chemicals that have killed far too
many of our citizens. Thirdly, where you find drugs, you usually find guns; this combination is
responsible for most of the deaths in our state. This is why we go after drug dealers.”
