Indictments
On November 21, 2025, the St. Landry Grand Jury convened and issued four indictments.
Benjamin Baquet, 30, was indicted with the second-degree murder of A.M.B, a juvenile under the age of 12. Doctors ruled the death of the child to be a homicide, stemming from “shaken baby syndrome,” injuries caused by Baquet when the child was just seven weeks old. Baquet’s last known address is in Lumberton, Texas. A warrant for his arrest has been issued.
Hayden Reese Boudreaux, 22, of Arnaudville was also indicted with the second-degree murder of Nathan Alexander Powell, 31 years of age, and also from Arnaudville. The victim succumbed to two gunshot wounds to the chest. The incident happened at Tiger Touchdown #6 on Main Street in Arnaudville on August 30th earlier this year. Boudreaux is set for arraignment on January 8, 2026.
Lorenzo Jamal Fontenot, 54, of Opelousas was indicted with the second-degree murder of Awen Fontenot, also from Opelousas. Fontenot died of multiple stab wounds to his upper torso; on Monday, August 11, 2025, Fontenot’s body was found on the floor a day later in his home on Newman Street. Fontenot is set for arraignment on January 8, 2026.
Jakob Sedrick Oakley,23, of Opelousas was indicted with first degree rape and second-degree battery of an Opelousas woman. The victim was picked up at the Brass Rail Bar in Opelousas and brought to a rural area in north St. Landry Parish where he forcibly raped the victim. She was found outside the front door of a home when she escaped. She was brought to a local hospital and treated for her injuries. Oakley will be arraigned on December 18, 2025.
Second degree battery carries up to eight years with or without hard labor. Both Second Degree Murder and First-Degree Rape carry a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor, without probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
