OPELOUSAS MAN CONVICTED OF RAPE
Yesterday a St. Landry Parish Jury convicted Lee Jackson, 55, of Opelousas of First-Degree Rape which carries a mandatory penalty of life in pnson.
Jackson was also convicted of two counts of Molestation of a Juvenile under the age of thirteen, each count carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years at hard labor.
St. Landry felony prosecutors Patsy Duhon and Laura Signorelli began the trial last week with jury selectin and presented two days of evidence before submitting for jury deliberation. It took less than an hour for the jury to return a verdict on all counts.
District Attorney Chad Pitre said our community is much safer after getting this conviction.
District Judge Greg Doucet oversaw the trial and will be handing down the sentence on October 18th
