A Fire District 3 firefighter and a St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s deputy were honored Tuesday night for their heroic actions saving the life of Abby Lemaire during a January 13 house fire. Firefighter Captain Charles LaJack and Sgt. Damien Morgan of the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Department received lifesaving awards for their actions. Both showed courageous effort to save a disabled victim from a house fire in Opelousas. Together an attempt to pull the woman from a window was initially unsuccessful. Capt. LaJack then climbed into the window and lifted the victim to allow Sgt. Morgan to pull her to safety. The victim couldn’t be present for the award presentation but asked to share that she feels blessed these two heroes were there for her and that she appreciates everyone who helped her through her ordeal.
