Opelousas Police Department Investigating Shooting Incident Near Yambilee Ag Arena
On May 17, 2026, at approximately 1:42 AM, the Opelousas Police Department received several calls reporting a shooting behind the Ag Arena at the Yambilee Building.
Upon arrival, officers learned that two victims sustained gunshot wounds to their extremities. The injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening. Both victims were transported by private vehicle to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators also discovered that four vehicles and one camper were struck by gunfire during the incident.
The suspect vehicle was described as a white GMC or Chevrolet 2500 four-door pickup truck equipped with mud tires and black rims.
The Opelousas Police Department would also like to emphasize that all evidence at this time indicates that the individuals involved with this incident are not residents of Opelousas or St. Landry Parish.
