UPDATE: HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION – HASHIM STREET
The Opelousas Police Department is providing an update regarding the homicide investigation that occurred on October 12, 2025, in the 1000 block of Hashim Street.
Investigators have identified a suspect in the incident as Kera Vitatoe. Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Ms. Vitatoe and the victim, identified as Mareya Henry, were involved in a relationship. Investigators also determined that Ms. Vitatoe had previously been arrested in another jurisdiction for a battery committed against Ms. Henry.
During the ongoing investigation, detectives obtained crucial evidence indicating that Ms. Vitatoe is responsible for committing the homicide. As a result, an arrest warrant has been issued for Kera Vitatoe for the following charges:
- (1) Count – Second Degree Murder
- (2) Counts – Attempted Second Degree Murder
Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Kera Vitatoe. She should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who knows her whereabouts or comes into contact with her is urged not to approach her and to immediately contact local law enforcement.
