OPD Provides Update on Two Separate Shooting Investigations

Opelousas, LA — Investigators with the Opelousas Police Department have made arrests in two separate shooting incidents that occurred Tuesday night within the city of Opelousas.


Market & Church Street Shooting – Update

Investigators have made an arrest in the shooting that occurred Tuesday night near Market Street and Church Street.

Dominique Trotter turned himself in to authorities early this morning. Investigators previously obtained arrest warrants for Trotter on the following charges:

  • Attempted Second Degree Murder (2 counts)
  • Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities
  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm

The victim in this case remains in the Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.


East Vine Street Shooting – Update

Investigators have also made an arrest in the shooting that occurred Wednesday night at the Valero gas station located on East Vine Street.

Detectives located Donald Henry at his residence, where he was taken into police custody. Investigators believe an argument occurred between Henry and the victim, during which Henry allegedly shot the victim once.

Henry later confessed to the shooting and was arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail on the charge of Attempted Manslaughter.

Additional arrests are pending, and further information will be released as it becomes available and as the investigations allow.
