TOWN OF MELVILLE

AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE SALARY, DUTIES, AND HOURS OF THE TOWN CLERK FOR THE TOWN

FOR MELVILLE

WHEREAS, the Town Council/Board of Alderman for the Town of Melvillle have determined that the pay
needs to be established for the Clerk of the Town of Melville;
WHEREAS, the Town Council/Board of Alderman for the Townof Melville, Town Clerk is an appointed
position;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Alderman/Alderwoman of the Townof Melville,
Louisiana, in accordance with the applicable Louisiana law, including but not limited to LSA-R.S. Title 33;

SECTION I:
BE IT ORDAINED by the Townof Melville:
The compensation/pay for the appointed town clerk shall be an hourly position.
The hourly rate shall be set at $13.00 per hour.
The town clerk’s hours shall be from 8am -4pm
The town clerk’s duties and responsibilities as town clerk will remain the same unless changes
are made by the Mayor and/or the town Council.
The Mayor with Board of Aldermen approval shall have the authority to consider approval of
cost of living raises for the Town Clerk on an as needed basis;
Town town clerk shall receive one time raise after she is classified a master clerk by Louisiana
Clerks Association.

SECTION II.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the Town Clerk shall sign the Ordinance and submit it to the
Mayor with three (3) days after its adoption; the Ordinance shall become effective immediately
upon the signature of the Mayor and his return of the Ordinance to the Town Clerk;
In the event that the Mayor fails or refuses to return the Ordinance to the Town Clerk within 10
days of his receipt of the Ordinance, the Ordinance shall become law at midnight on the 10th day
after the receipt of the Ordinance by the Mayor;

SECTION III.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that all Ordinances or parts of Ordinances that are or may be in with
this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION IV.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that if any provision or item of this Ordinance or the application
thereof is held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions, items, or
applications of this Ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provisions, items or
application, and to this end the provisions of this Ordinance are hereby declared severable;

SECTION V.
This Ordinance having been introduced for publication at a properly scheduled and noticed
public Town meeting of the Mayor and Board of Alderman/Alderwomen on the _ day of
____________
, 2025, copies of the Ordinance having been provided to all the members of
the Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen and the Mayor, and said proposed Ordinance having been
PUBLISHED in the official journal of the municipality on the _______ day of
_______ 2025, and a PUBLIC HEARING having been held on the proposed Ordinance on
the _ day of ___________, 2025 the title of said Ordinance having been read and the
Ordinance properly considered at a properly scheduled and noticed public Town meeting of the Mayor
and Board of Aldermen/Alderwomen on the day of _________, 2025 on
motion by Alderman/Alderwoman ____________, properly seconded by
Aldermen/Alderwoman_______________________, to adopt and enact the Ordinance, and record vote
taken and the following result had and entered by the Town Clerk as follows:

Whereupon, the motion receiving the affirmative vote of the majority of the Board of
Aldermen/Alderwomen quorum present, the presiding officer declared the above Ordinance to be
adopted on the day of ______________, 2025.
