St. Landry Parish Government Ceases Animal Control Operations
ST. LANDRY PARISH – St. Landry Parish Government announces today that it will officially
cease all Animal Control operations effective 4:30 p.m. today, July 22.
Animal Control is not a service mandated by the State of Louisiana. After careful consideration,
St. Landry Parish Government has made the decision to discontinue providing parish-operated
animal control services.
“As Animal Control is not a state-mandated service, we have made the difficult decision
to end these operations,” said Parish President Jessie Bellard. “While we understand the
importance of this service, the parish must focus its resources on responsibilities that are
required by law and within our available funding.”
Effective immediately, St. Landry Parish Government will no longer respond to or provide
Animal Control services.
Moving forward, each municipality within St. Landry Parish will be responsible for addressing
its own animal control matters. Residents living within incorporated municipalities should
contact their local municipal government regarding animal control issues. Residents in
unincorporated areas should contact the appropriate law enforcement agency if an animal
presents an immediate threat to public safety.
St. Landry Parish Government appreciates the dedication of its Animal Control staff and thanks
the public for its understanding during this transition.
