SEARCH WARRANT FOR STOLEN PROPERTY LEADS TO NARCOTICS
ARREST IN CHURCH POINT AREA
According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On August 7, 2024, the St. Landry Parish
Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID), in conjunction with the Duson
Police Department, executed a search warrant for stolen property located at 503
Duplechin Road in the Church Point area, which is located in St. Landry Parish. The
Duson Police Department had an active arrest warrant for James Meche, the owner of the
residence, for simple burglary.”
During the initial search, detectives discovered a large amount of marijuana and THC
products within the residence. Upon locating the illegal narcotics, CID detectives
contacted St. Landry Parish narcotics detectives for assistance with furthering the
narcotics portion of the investigation.
Narcotics detectives arrived on scene and contacted two suspects, Angelica McGuffin
and Derrick Daigle, who were located when detectives initially executed the search
warrant. Both suspects were advised of their Miranda Rights and interviewed on scene.
They both denied any knowledge that the residence contained such a large amount of
marijuana.
During a further search of the residence, detectives located the following:
approximately 1 gram of suspected crystal methamphetamine;
approximately a quarter gram of suspected heroin;
5882 grams of marijuana equivalent to approximately 12.9 pounds;
50 bottles of THC liquid (assorted brands);
6 assorted packages containing THC gummies
2 bottles of anabolic steroids;
21 assorted THC Vapes;
19 THC Rebel Chocolate Caramel chews; and
$820.00 in US currency.
The total value of all narcotics is estimated at approximately $121,650.00
All evidence was then transported to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, where it was
inventoried and submitted into evidence.
On August 7, 2024, both Derrick Theophile Daigle and Angelica Rose McGuffin were
arrested and transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail.
Upon booking, Derrick Daigle was charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I
CDS (marijuana).
Angelica McGuffin was charged with possession with intent to distribute schedule I CDS
(marijuana) (5 Counts), possession of schedule III CDS (Anabolic Steroids), possession of
schedule II CDS (crystal methamphetamine), possession of schedule I CDS (heroin), and
transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.
James Meche was not home at the time the search warrant was executed.
