OPD ANNOUNCES SECOND ARREST IN DECEMBER 16 HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
Opelousas, LA — Investigators with the Opelousas Police Department have made a second arrest in the December 16, 2025 shooting that resulted in the death of Markee Benjamin.
Investigators have arrested 24-year-old Kurtel Gallien in connection with this ongoing investigation. Gallien turned himself in to authorities accompanied by his attorney and was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.
Gallien has been formally charged with the following offenses:
• Second-Degree Murder
• Attempted Second-Degree Murder
• Illegal Use of Weapons and Dangerous Instrumentalities
• Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Chief Graig LeBlanc expressed his appreciation to the public for their assistance.
“We are grateful to the community members who came forward and provided valuable information that helped our investigators identify the individuals involved,” Chief LeBlanc said.
Chief LeBlanc also stated that investigators anticipate additional arrests as the investigation continues.
