St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz is scheduled to discuss the lively histories compiled by several of his elected predecessors Thursday night during a free event hosted by the Preservationists of St. Landry, Inc.

The presentation by Guidroz, which begins at six o’clock, is open to the public and continues a quarterly Speakers series sponsored the preservationist group at the historic Michel Prudhomme House located at 1128 Prudhomme Circle.

Since becoming sheriff, Guidroz has researched the lives and administrations of several St. Landry sheriffs elected to office since the 18th century.

During October the Prudhomme House will host two other important functions that are open to the public.

The house will be open informally for tours and visits beginning at 2 p.m. this Saturday.

On Oct. 26 the Prudhomme House will again host an annual Daughters of The American Revolution commemoration beginning at 10 a.m. The commemorative event honors parish residents who marched to Baton Rouge in 1776 in an effort to expel the British from occupying the area.

Northwestern State University president Jimmy Genovese was featured at the first Preservationist speaker series early this year.

Genovese at the time was a Louisiana Supreme Court justice and discussed the involvement of his brother, Michael Genovese, in helping create the Louisiana Swamp Pop music scene of the 1950’s.

The Prudhomme House will be open an hour before the speakers’ event.
