TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO NARCOTICS ARREST IN OPELOUSAS
According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On August 6, 2024 during the afternoon hours,
narcotics detectives with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office received information from
a confidential source regarding Cody Pickney selling illegal narcotics from 920 South
Main Street in Opelousas, La. Detectives were extremely familiar with Pickney, who is a
convicted felon and has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1999.”
Detectives established surveillance on the residence and later observed Pickney departing
the area in an orange Mitsubishi Eclipse. Pickney was then stopped by a narcotics
detective for an expired license plate. During the traffic stop, detectives also discovered
that Pickney’s driver’s license was suspended.
Cody Pickney was patted down and detained in the rear of a marked unit. Pickney
provided verbal consent to search his vehicle; however, no illegal narcotics were located.
Detectives then removed Pickney from the rear of the marked unit, which is when they
discovered Pickney had discarded a clear plastic bag containing suspected crystal
methamphetamine, crack cocaine and cocaine.
On August 6, 2024, Cody Dionel Pickney was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail
and charged with expired license plate, possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS
(Cocaine), possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS (Crack Cocaine), and possession
with intent to distribute schedule II CDS (Methamphetamine).
