Week 5 Parish Football Preview

Defenses for Opelousas Catholic and St. Edmund will undoubtedly be placed on high alert Friday night at Donald Gardner Stadium.
Both undefeated teams in Class 1A, have displayed the ability to score often through the first four weeks of 2024 and the district game between the long-time parochial school rivals should not be considered an exception.
The contest, considered to be one of the more intriguing games in the seven-parish Acadiana area, highlights the Week 5 contests among football teams in St. Landry Parish.
St. Edmund is averaging 50.8 points, while in September OCS has scored no fewer than 42 points the last three games.
Both teams are 1-0 in District
OCS is ranked No.7 in this week’s Class 1A poll.
Class 4A
Opelousas High and Eunice High are still playing non-district games.
Eunice is still winless this season. However three of the losses for the Bobcats have been in one-score games. Welsh (2-2) is a Class 2A program.
EHS is home this week against the Greyhounds. Each team has each lost to Kinder and No. 7 Jennings
Opelousas (1-2) plays the first of three away games against Zachary (3-1), the eighth-ranked team in Class 5A. Zachary is the second consecutive 5A program the Tigers face this season.
The Tigers are ranked No. 4 in the Week 5 Class 4A poll. Opelousas’ losses this season have been to Teurlings Catholic, the top-ranked team in 4A and Alexandria, the No. 6 team in 5A.
Beau Chene is (1-3) after defeating Berchmans Academy last Friday night. The Gators’ point total against Berchmans was the most this season. Previously Beau Chene had scored 12 points during an 0-3 start
Class 3A
Northwest, ranked No. 9 this week, starts district play against Pine Prairie.
The Raiders (2-2) have lost consecutively to Jennings (35-14) and Barbe. Jennings is ranked No.7 in Class 4A, while Barbe is a Class 5A program
Northwest and Jennings were tied last Friday night at 14, The Raiders continue to get production from running back Ke’Von Johnson, quarterback Jayden Chavis and wide receiver Malek Davis, who has five catches for 150 yards in the last two games.
Class 2A
Port Barre (1-3) is at home for a district game against South Beauregard (3-1).
Defensively the Red Devils have had issues the past two weeks in losses against Opelousas Catholic and Marksville
In those two contests, Port Barre has allowed a cumulative 82 points.
Class 1A
Berchmans Academy (1-3) plays a first district football game in school history when the Saints play at North Central (0-4).
North Central (0-4, 0-1) is in a first season under head football coach Dwight Collins.
Berchmans scored an initial football program win two weeks ago against Highland Baptist (28-8)
The Hurricanes lost to St. Edmund last week (47-8).
Westminster Christian (2-2, 0-1) is at Sacred Heart (3-1, 0-1) in another district game. The Crusaders lost a district home opener last week to Catholic High-Pointe Coupee (14-9).
