For Women’s History Month, Officer Carolyn Baker-Marzette will be honored. Mrs. Baker-
Marzette was the first full-time female Police Officer employed at the Opelousas Police
Department. Sponsored by the Opelousas Police Department, the event takes place on
Thursday, March 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

ABOUT OFFICER CAROLYN BAKER-MARZETTE

Carolyn Baker was born and raised in the close-knit community of Plaisance, Louisiana. Baker
has lived a life defined by service, resilience, and unwavering dedication to Opelousas. After
graduating high school, she answered the call to serve her country by enlisting in the United
States Air Force. In the military, she traveled the world, expanding her perspective and
reinforcing the values of discipline, leadership, and integrity that would guide her throughout
her career.
Following her service, Baker built a diverse professional background, working for the United
States Postal Service and Boeing, among other organizations. Although Carolyn lived in various
states throughout her life, Opelousas remained home. Carolyn’s deep-rooted love for the city
and its people drew her back, and ultimately led her to her true calling. She broke barriers as
the first female police officer of the City of Opelousas. Throughout her remarkable career, she paved
the way for future generations of women in law enforcement. Baker was trusted presence in
the neighborhoods she served.
Officer Carolyn Baker-Marzette formed lifelong relationships with local business owners,
ensuring that law enforcement was not just about protection, but also about partnership.
Officer Baker-Marzatte served as a role model to the community, and to her three children,
David, Daryl, and Chaneita; they all followed in her footsteps, living lives of service to their
respective fields and communities.
Officer Carolyn Baker-Marzette is a pioneer in law enforcement, and a pillar of strength,
service, and inspiration for generations to come.
