Things seem to be looking much nicer in downtown Opelousas as several of the historic buildings are being renovated back to their original grandeur. One such landmark is the Dupre-Estilette home located on Court Street next to the St. Landry Chamber of Commerce office.

The home, once used as a boys home, was built in the 1890’s and is now owned by Angela M. Angello. While walking by the home Thursday morning I stopped to talk to Jose Herrera, who was busy working on some of the moldings to be used on the interior rooms. Herrera and his brother, Obdulio Benitez, are doing much of the renovations to the home. The Sunset, La. resident has been doing construction work for many years and is the CEO of JOSE-JOC Construction, LLC. They specialize in a variety of specialties including renovations, roofing, flooring, sheetrock and remodeling.
