An article by Greg Hilburn in a local news paper indicated that a law allows concealed guns without permit for veterans. Senate Bill 143 (Act 680) with the concealed carry military exception by Republican Monroe Senator Jay Morris sailed through both the House and Senate and secured Gov. Edwards’ signature. This Bill allows as many as 300,000 military veterans and active duty troops in Louisiana will be eligible to carry concealed handguns without permits or training beginning August 1. 2022.
“Our veterans and active-duty military are well versed in weapons training and are among the most responsible citizens we have and we recognize the brave men and women who fought for our state and country and the sacrifices they have made,” Morris. said.
The use of veterans (honorably discharged) with little additional training should be considered as School Resource Officers in every school in Louisiana. Louisiana School Superintendent Cade Brumley should consider discussing this during the next statewide school safety summit scheduled for August 4, at the Baton Rouge River Center. If this were properly discussed and implemented this would put Louisiana as the only state in the nation to use veterans as security in all public, private and charter schools. Where there are schools there children, parents and veterans. This would be a major project for the Louisiana School System, THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED . .
THIS IS A SOLUTION TO A SCHOOL SECURITY PROBLEM. I MAINTAIN THAT IF OUR VETERANS CAN SECURE A COUNTRY–THEY CERTAINLY CAN SECURE A SCHOOL.
Very Respectfully,
