The St. Landry Chamber Foundation held an orientation and open applications on Sunday at South City Park for the recruitment of the 2024-2025 Youth Leadership Council.
Students, accompanied by their parents/grandparents, attended the orientation in the community center where they were welcomed with plate lunches and door prizes throughout the program as they learned about the mission of Youth Leadership Council members.
The Youth Leadership Council offers the opportunity for members to develop leadership skills while also acquiring volunteer hours for their participation in community service projects. Members are active in their community and will serve in various upcoming events such as Tangled in Tinsel, St. Landry Parish Veteran’s Memorial Clean Up Day, and future fundraising events. As part of their requirement in the program, members will participate in hosting a fundraising service project with the support of Leadership St. Landry participants as well as experience in industries in the area.
All proceeds from these fundraising events will help fund the St. Landry Chamber Foundation Ambassador Scholarship. Youth Leadership Council members will be able to apply for this scholarship during Senior year of high school.
Initially the program was only offered for high school juniors and seniors. Youth Leadership advisors are aiming to expand and extend the program this year to high school students across St. Landry Parish starting in 9th grade through 12th to provide more opportunities for members to acquire skills.
