TEAgether: Changing Lives One Step At A Time

February 15, 2026

Ashley collaborated with a friend and fellow teacher who taught an “Incubator” class where several students helped create more ideas for a business as part of a class project.  Ashley shared her vision and mentored the students who presented the project in a “Shark Tank”-style event. The business idea was met with a high level of enthusiasm and strong community support. This was the confirmation needed to move forward with the business plan. Ashley retired in May 2023, and her family purchased and launched the first TEAgether tea trailer. With the support of family, community friends, and local officials, the business had…

Dorothy Thomas: Advocate To Local Veterans

February 13, 2026
All of her brothers served in the military and for almost forty years Dorothy Thomas has been an advocate for veterans in the Opelousas and St. Landry Parish area. She founded the Opelousas Veterans Organization and together with her volunteers have sponsored the Veterans Day parade in downtown Opelousas as well as graveside ceremonies at Bellevue Memorial Cemetery every Memorial Day. She also holds a flag raising ceremony at the Farmers Market on November 1 to acknowledge the month as the month to recognize veterans. For the parade she also brings in the well known singing group from Los Angeles known as the Ruth Davis Mountain Climbers. OCS Wrestlers Make Progress

February 13, 2026
OCS Wrestlers Make Progress BOBBY ARDOIN St. Landry Now.com Editor When Bryant Masson arrived at Opelousas Catholic campus to coach football several years ago, he found that the campus also possessed fertile possibilities for recruiting wrestling team candidates. There was an immediate problem however. OCS didn’t have a wrestling program at that time and despite spying the physical potential of several candidates, Masson was admittedly operating in an unfamiliar neighborhood. “For me it was like starting at ground zero,” said Masson. Three years later the Vikings ended the 2026 state wrestling meet in the top third of Division III, with four competitors earning places at the event held in Bossier City. Wrestling has never been unfamiliar territory for Masson. Masson competed at Teurlings Catholic for his father, Kent Masson, whose teams there have won 12 state wrestling titles over a 24-year span. Using a 35-year-old wrestling mat provided by his father and…

Instead, for possibly the first time in event history, the number of winner doubloons was equal as cakes from the Sweet Dough Pie team from Grand Coteau and the LeBeau-area Peyton Actus Capital group caught the attention of the 20 eager judges that ate their share of the traditional Mardi Gras delicacy. There were no complaints from the attendees as everyone seemed content as they used multiple napkins to wipe away the fillings and icings on the 12 cakes that were presented for tasting. Hosted at the Tourist Commission office at the Nuba exchange off Interstate 49, the king cakes set before the judges contained an assortment of inviting…
