It was a grand evening Saturday night as guests packed the Delta Grand for the Annual Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Ball.

Guests were treated to an enchanting evening of grandeur as they were welcomed to dazzling decorations, complimentary glitter application, and vibrant festivities to the theme of “Imperial Goes to Carnival”. Robbie Sebastien, vice-president of the Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Association, stated this was the largest event in participation since the ball’s inception as tickets were completely sold out and additional seats were added this year to accommodate guests as the event continues to expand.

A Royal Statement

King Imperial V, Joe Godchaux Jr. made his dazzling entrance in regal fashion donning a shimmering gold suit that made quite the dignified statement. Joseph F. Godchaux Jr. is the son of Joseph and Yvonne Godchaux, who were also in attendance at the Imperial Mardi Gras Ball in support of his royal position.

Joe holds several professional designations and is the managing partner and CEO of Dupre Carrier Godchaux Agency, Inc. He is an active Financial Advisor and Sales Executive in addition to his leadership, mentorship and management responsibilities for Dupre Carrier Godchaux Agency. Joe also serves as a board member for several businesses in the Community.

Queen Lily V, Aquanits Zachary graced her subjects with her imperial entrance in a stunning ball gown beautifully adorned with gold embellishments that can be matched with her heart of gold for her community.

Aquanits Dionne Zachary is the Health and Safety Consultant for Quest Safety Solutions and the Executive Assistant at Crazy Jim’s Janitorial Service, a family-owned business her family has operated for over 30 years. She also serves the community along with members of her sorority by assisting with the Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack Program and also assists with cultivating young children to become leaders through the Youth Leadership Institute. Aquanits is one of the Charter members of the Opelousas Rotary Club Sunrise After Dark, and she actively supports and assists other organizations such as Kiwanis Club, St. Landry Abilities, the Love Project, St. Jude, and the American Cancer Foundation just to name a few.

The Carnival theme remained prevalent atop the reserved tables, which were judged early in the evening and larger than life ‘king and queen’ figures towered over the crowd making their way on the dance floor throughout the evening. Claiming the title for the third year in a row, James Farms was awarded for Best Table Decoration for the evening.

A toast to the sovereignty of the Imperial king and queen was presented by special guest and OIMGA President Bruce Alsandor alongside past royalty who previously reigned over their kingdom.

King Imperial V, Queen Lily V, and their majestic court will see you soon at the Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Parade on Fat Tuesday, February 13th. The parade promises to bring an unforgettable Mardi Gras celebration filled with dazzling colors, lively music, and joyous celebrations led by Parade Marshall Gregg Martinez.

Parade registration is still open for anyone who wishes to reserve a spot in the festivities! The deadline to register is February 8, 2024. For additional information, contact Robbie Sebastien at (337) 948-4367.
