Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Parade 2026
February 17, 2026Crowds started arriving early in downtown Opelousas to pass a good time and watch the Opelousas Imperial Mardi Gras Parade which rolled down Landry Street to the Yambilee grounds. Sounds of "throw me something mister" was heard throughout the parade route where marching bands, decorative floats and an assortment of parade entries made their way down Landry Street which was lined with Mardi Gras revelers three and four deep, with outstretched hands hoping to catch beads and othe throws. Leading the parade was Grand Marshal Lonnie Briley while ruling over the Imperial Mardi Gras was King Imperial VII Robbie Tomlinson and Queen Lily VII Candace Papillion Haynes.

February 17, 2026Zyde Gras On The Square drew close to 1500 Mardi Gras revelers to the courthouse square to pass a good time and dance to the Zydeco sounds of Keith Frank and the Soileau Zydeco Band. This Mardi Gras event was sponsored by the St. Landry Parish Government. z

ULL Mourns The Loss Of Dwight “Bo” Lamar
February 17, 2026LOUISIANA ATHLETICS MOURNS THE LOSS OF DWIGHT “BO” LAMARLAFAYETTE – Louisiana Athletics and the entire Ragin’ Cajuns community mourn the passing ofUL Hall of Fame basketball standout Dwight “Bo” Lamar, who died early Monday in hishometown of Columbus, Ohio. He was 74.A cornerstone in then-Southwestern Louisiana’s rise from a small-school NAIA program to anational force at the Division I level, Lamar starred for the Ragin’ Cajuns from 1969-73 underlegendary coach Beryl Shipley. OPD Crime Updates
February 17, 2026The Opelousas Police Department continues to make significant progress in multiple investigations involving recent incidents of gunfire. The reduction of gun violence remains a top priority, and investigators are actively pursuing those responsible. February 11, 2026 – 1400 Block of W. Park Avenue (9:00 p.m.) Officers responded to a report of a vehicle being struck by gunfire following an encounter with the occupants of a gray SUV. Through the use of surveillance technology and investigative techniques, officers were able to positively identify the individuals responsible. UPDATE: Warrants have been issued for the arrest of: Freddie Lewis Jr., 42 Freddie Lewis III, 23 Both individuals are wanted on the following charges: 1 Count – Attempted Second Degree Murder 1 Count – Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property The Opelousas Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating these wanted individuals. Mardi Gras Security Changes
February 16, 2026St. Landry Parish Government has implemented comprehensive security measures for the 4th Annual ZydeGras on the Square on Mardi Gras Day. All Opelousas Police Department officers assigned to parade operations will also be assigned to Mardi Gras festivities on the Courthouse Square, working in coordination with St. Landry Parish Government Security Officers throughout the event. A clear bag policy will be enforced, all attendees are subject to search, and anyone 16 years of age and under must be accompanied by an adult. Outside food, drinks, and ice chests will not be permitted on event grounds. February 16, 2026*Cheryl Buxton]: The Soul of the Basin** **Cheryl is a Narrative Expressionist whose work is literally rooted in the earth of Louisiana.** Born and raised along the banks of Bayou Rouge and the Atchafalaya River, her artistic journey began not in a classroom, but in the wild corridors of Spanish moss, ancient oaks, and the red clay of the basin. Before she ever owned a store-bought tube of paint, Cheryl was a chemist of the swamp. As a child, she gathered wild berries, charred wood ashes, and hibiscus blooms to create her own pigments. She fashioned her first brushes from willow twigs and locks of hair from a horse named BlackJack, mixing her concoctions in the iridescent bellies of sun-bleached clam shells. This primal connection to her materials—using cornsilk for texture and dampened ash for shadow—established the "Bold and Raw" style that defines her work today. Though the "starving artist"…

TEAgether: Changing Lives One Step At A Time
February 15, 2026In 2022, Friendswood High School Special Education teacher Ashley Naylor recognized a need for meaningful job training and employment opportunities for her students after graduation. Spending countless hours researching and visiting various businesses, the Naylors decided on a mobile business model that is event-driven, affordable, and has an easy-to-follow system. Ashley collaborated with a friend and fellow teacher who taught an “Incubator” class where several students helped create more ideas for a business as part of a class project. Ashley shared her vision and mentored the students who presented the project in a “Shark Tank”-style event. The business idea was met with a high level of enthusiasm and strong community support. This was the confirmation needed to move forward with the business plan. Ashley retired in May 2023, and her family purchased and launched the first TEAgether tea trailer. Eunice Cajun Mardi Gras Day 3
February 15, 2026Storms were brewing all over Acadiana Saturday night but Sunday morning brought bright, warm sunshine just perfect for the thirsd day of fun at the Eunice Cajun Mardi Gras. The morning got started with an old time boucherie, a french term meaning buthcher shop or the trade of butchery. Onlookers watched as the large hog would be lunch for many of the festival goers. By mid-afternoon the boudin was ready as well as cracklins and backbone stew. Merci beaucoup cochon. Band providingds the musical entertainment included Ryan Simon and Acadien; Regan Navarre and Louisiana Tradition; Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadunners; Horace Trahan and Ossun Express; Donnie Broussard and Lil' Lil' Stars; Troy LeJeune and Lukass Meaux and Cajun Beat.. The Paw Paw Parade closed out the festivities for Sunday. But not to worry a full slate of events wa set for Lundi Gras leading up to the grand finale…

Eunice Mardi Gras: Passing A Good Time
February 14, 2026Visitors From Tampa Florida mingled with locals as they passed a good time at the Eunlice Mardi Gras. Friday night was the kickoff for the Eunice Mardi Gras and if the crowd was any indication the town will be rocking all the way to midnight on Fat Tuesday. Thousands enjoyed a variety of music local bands finishsing off the night with Wayne Toups, Tampa resident, Sharon Miller, was passing a good time with family members. Originally from Opelousas, Sharon proved that you can take a Cajun girl out of Louisiana but you can't take Louisiana out of a Cajun girl. The fun continues through Fat Tuesday with music, food, parades and of course the Courir de Mardi Gras. So come to Eunice and pass a good time at the Eunice Mardi Gras.
