Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz reports, “On May 9, 2025, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified of a theft
that occurred at 865 Mulberry Road, Opelousas. The responding officer was told that a St. Landry Parish
Animal Control Officer had stolen a saddle from the property. It was further explained that the Animal Control
Officers were on scene to seize animals and it was during this event that the saddle was taken.” Sheriff Guidroz
continues, “The patrol deputy conducted an investigation that led to the arrest of Khayri Thomas, an employee
of Parish Animal Control. It is regrettable that agents entrusted to enforce regulations violate the law, but we
will investigate every complaint and occurrence to ensure that the integrity of every element of government
remain beyond reproach.”
