Jones Family Gives PBHS Scholarships

Port Barre High graduating senior Logan Buller became the first recipient of the annual Virgie and Wesley Jones Scholarship which provides $500 in financial assistance for college students graduating from the school.

Buller will be attending UL-Monroe. She plans to pursue a degree in forensic psychology with a minor in criminal justice.

The scholarship presentation to Buller was made recently by Port Barre High school administrators and teachers that included principal Theresa Lavergne, band director Dante Boyd, Brave Rollins, counselor Dana Hebert, Lucretia Jones, daughter of Virgie and Wesley Jones and Port Barre teacher Dr. Dona Robinson-Boyd.

Chad Jones, son of Wesley and Virgie Jones, said the couple was deeply embedded in St. Landry Parish public education.

The pair of educators taught a combined 76 years in the parish school system, said Chad Jones.

Wesley Jones was a principal and teacher in Leonville and at Port Barre Elementary, while Virgie Jones spent most of her career teaching at Port Barre Elementary.
