Who’s Running For Opelousas Mayor?
Staff Reports
Six candidates have qualified for the 2026 Opelousas mayoral election that will be held Nov. 3.
Among the qualifiers this past week is two-term incumbent Julius Alsandor, who became eligible on Friday afternoon.
Attempting to unseat Alsandor are candidates Donald Broussard, Sona Anderson, Elbert Guillory, Devin Manuel McKnight and Rod Sias.
The candidates for Opelousas mayor are part of a large group of qualifiers that include every municipal office in St. Landry Parish.
District judges, constables, justices of the peace, city marshals and municipal judges are also part of the election field.
Also running for office are parish school board members. Nearly half of the school board positions are available for new office holders, since six seats are currently held by incumbents whose positions are termed out.
According to the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court, there were 207 candidates who became official candidates following three days of qualifying.
