SERIOUS TIME FOR SERIOUS CRIME IN ST. LANDRY PARISH
LEONARD MILLER AND FILLMORE WRIGHT RECEIVED HARD LABOR SENTENCES THIS WEEK AFTER SUCCESSFUL PROSECUTIONS BY THE ST. LANDRY PARISH DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE. ON TUESDAY, MAY 9TH, LEONARD MILLER WAS SENTENCED TO SERVE LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF PROBATION, PAROLE OR SUSPENSION OF SENTENCE FOR THE SECOND-DEGREE MURDER OF CLARENCE MITCHELL. MILLER WAS ALSO CONVICTED OF BEING A FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM AND WAS SENTENCED TO A CONCURRENT TWENTY YEARS AT HARD LABOR ON THAT CHARGE.

ALSO ON MAY 9TH, A ST. LANDRY PARISH JUDGE FOUND THAT THIRTY YEARS AT HARD LABOR FIT THE CRIME OF TWO COUNTS OF SEXUAL BATTERY OF A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 13. FILLMORE WRIGHT WAS FOUND GUILTY AS CHARGED BY AJURY OFTWELVE ON MARCH 10, 2023. TWENTY-FIVE OF THOSE YEARS SERVED BY WRIGHT WILL BE SERVED WITHOUT THE BENEFIT OF PROBATION, PAROLE OR SUSPENSION OF SENTENCE.
