The rebuilding of the Eunice Community Health Center which will address the medical needs of underserved patients from the multi-parish area surrounding St. Landry was dedicated officially on Thursday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Construction on the $1.5 million project funded through state capital outlay revenues, has already begun, according to a press release from St. Landry Parish government.

Parish president Jessie Bellard confirmed the acceptance for the Health Center funding during several Parish Council meetings earlier this year.

Providing a health care center for the Eunice area is significant, Bellard said, since there is a large underserved population in the Tri-Parish area that needs quality medical services.

Bellard said the repurposed Health Center building is part of the remaining structure from the Moosa Memorial Hospital complex that was torn down over a year ago.

Much of the former material originally used to build the hospital building was recycled.
