The Holy Ghost Creole Festival doesn’t get underway until Friday but Wednesay morning Holy Ghost Catholic Church Associate Pastor Rev. Manie Manuel SVD was busy baking sweet delicacies to be sold on church grounds once the festival begins. Rev. Manuel, who is also a Le Cordon Bleu professional chef, will be manning the sweet booth, one of the most popular booths on the festival grounds. If sweets of all kinds aren’t enough to satisfy one’s hunger pains there will also be fried catfish, boudin and the festival’s famous backbone stew
The festival gets underway on Friday with the Creole foods and Friday night experience gospel hymns featuring several choirs from Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
Saturday’s events get started early with a 5K and One Mile Fun Run. All-day long, hear zydeco music bands under the music tent, but be sure to take a break to seek out the festival’s famous sweet dough pies. Holy Ghost volunteers spend hours preparing and baking this local treat because they are just too tempting to pass up. Sunday, join the locals in celebrating their Creole heritage at the Creole Festival Parade. The route runs from Landry Street all the way to Union Street. Feel free to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to enjoy the parade.
