National Purple Heart Day
The St. Landry Parish Veterans Memorial will observe National Purple Heart
Day on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Bobby Dupre Welcome Center, located at
5348 Highway 182 South, Opelousas, Louisiana.
All Purple Heart recipients and their families are cordially invited to join us from
7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a continental breakfast, fellowship, and an opportunity
to share their military journey.
Family members of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation
are also encouraged to attend.
National Purple Heart Day honors the courageous U.S. Service Members who
were wounded or killed in combat while defending our nation. The Badge of
Military Merit, the predecessor to the Purple Heart, was established by General
George Washington on August 7, 1782, to recognize the extraordinary bravery
and sacrifice of soldiers who were wounded or gave their lives in service to their
country.
