St. Landry Parish residents and tourists now have a new culinary experience with a new food truck park in Opelousas.

The Backyard Food Truck Park celebrated its grand opening this weekend, with food truck vendors, a cornhole tournament and vendors market on Saturday, June 8th. Located in the lot directly across the highway from Tractor Supply on Hwy. 190, you could see fun jumps and local food truck vendors lined up waiting for visitors. On-site, visitors had their pick from Creole cuisines, old-school cooking, fresh grilled burgers. OJ’s Sno was serving up some cool tasty snowballs to combat the heat.

The Food Truck Park will be open for visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 7pm. The park will also have a rotation of local food truck vendors offering a variety of selections from Barbeque to Mexican and Asian plus many more, that will be available 7 days a week.

Owner Mark Kidder and Katie Kidder

Locally owned by Mark Kidder, the Backyard Food Truck Park hopes to provide a fun and unique experience to residents.

Why a Food Truck Park?

Food truck parks have become increasingly popular destinations for food enthusiasts and social gatherings in larger communities. These culinary hubs offer a diverse range of cuisines in a lively outdoor setting, fostering a sense of community.

Mark says his goal with the food truck park is to create a place where local families can hang out with a unique experience. In addition to the food truck park, he hopes to provide backyard games and a cornhole tournament once a month to create a family-friendly space for all to enjoy. He has plans of expanding the park and adding more amenities in the future to bring St. Landry Parish families a place where they can relax and spend time together.

On Saturdays the park will also feature an open market for local craft and artisan vendors.
