Opelousas General Health System
Ranked No. 4* Hospital in Louisiana
Opelousas, LA, 01/12/2026 – Newsweek and Statista recently released America’s Best-in-State Hospitals 2026,
highlighting leading hospitals at the state level to help patients find trusted medical facilities no matter where
you live.
*Among similar size hospitals (100-250 beds) in Louisiana, Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) ranked
fourth on the recent Best-in-State Hospitals report. The Best-in-State list recognizes the nation’s 800 leading
hospitals in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
“We are thrilled to be on Newsweek’s list of Best-in-State hospitals again this year. Our team works
intentionally and collaboratively to provide high quality healthcare at OGHS. We are once again among the top
hospitals in the state due to the hard work of many dedicated professionals,” said Lance Armentor, BSM, MHA,
President & CEO.
This year’s methodology introduces several key updates, including an expansion of hospital quality metrics and
accreditation coverage, the incorporation of prior-year expert recommendations and a stronger focus on care
quality and patient-reported outcome measures. Reflecting these enhancements, the ranking has been
broadened from the top 700 in-state hospitals in 2025 to 800 in 2026.
Quality data is drawn from CMS, Medicare Fee-for-Service claims via Arcadia, the AHA Annual Survey (now
with staffing metrics) and hospital accreditation bodies including The Joint Commission, Planetree, ACHC and
ANCC Magnet designation. Reputation is shaped by a nationwide survey of medical professionals, who rate
hospitals in care quality, counseling, amenities, staffing and accessibility. Patient experience is included via
HCAHPS survey results.
The scoring rests on four data pillars: Hospital quality metrics (50%), hospital reputation (30%), patient
experience (15%) and PROMs implementation (5%), which is a Patient Reported Outcome Measures score.
These are defined as standardized, validated questionnaires completed by patients to measure their perception of
their functional well-being and quality of life.
