The Opelousas Little Theatre, which once served as an 1800s-era church, is getting a much-needed face lift upon receiving a matching grant.
“As you may imagine, upkeep of a building built in the late 1800’s is an ongoing challenge. We were fortunate to have received a matching grant for repairs. However, that also means that we come up with the same amount.” says OLT owner.
The grant program, which offers dollar-for-dollar matching grant funds for building improvements, was funded by the Opelousas Downtown Development District with support from the City of Opelousas and Opelousas Main Street, Inc. Opelousas Little Theatre was one of 12 local businesses that was approved during the first cycle of grants from the B.I.G. program.
With this much-needed support, the Little Theatre was able to get the necessary attention to keep its doors open and has recently undergone repairs to replace rotting boards, leveling of the east side and the front porch redone.
Now the OLT is seeking your help to continue supporting their efforts to preserve the arts and keep the theatre alive through funding to raise the matching $10,000 as part of the grant program.
