St. Landry Parish, LA – On Saturday, April 22, 2023, after four days of trial, a St. Landry Parish jury unanimously found 29 year old, Eddie Stagg Jr. of Opelousas, guilty on all counts of second degree murder for the killing of Darrell Wheeler, Jr., and attempted second degree murder of Cleveland Roberts.
Stagg was also convicted on Saturday of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon stemming from a December 2020 charge.
Evidence at trial revealed Stagg killed Wheeler as he sat in his parked vehicle and then turned and fired on Roberts who was standing in the front yard of his residence.
Stagg’s sentencing will take place on April 27, 2023 before District Judge Jason Meche.
Second degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
