PAT MASON-GUILLORY – Honored with the Peoples Health Champions Award
The Peoples Health Champions program breaks long-held stereotypes about the capacity of
people over age 65. Life experience makes them capable of amazing things, so Peoples Health
highlights their stories in a very special way. It all begins with a nomination and culminates with
their big moment under bright lights on the Caesars Superdome field.
Once a person is nominated and selected to be a Champion, Peoples Health notifies them of their
selection. An interview and video shoot follow, capturing details about the Champion’s
accomplishments and passions.
Pat Mason-Guillory’s accomplishments and passion for St. Landry Parish veterans led to her
Champion award. She was acknowledged during a New Orleans Saints home game on Sunday,
October 11th. A limousine picked up her and her daughter, Andrea Yvette Dean, and whisked
them away to the Superdome, where they were greeted by Peoples Health and selection
committee representatives.
Mason-Guillory was escorted to the field 30 minutes before kick-off, surrounded by the
excitement of pre-game energy. When given the cue, she took her place on the 10-yard line,
while a 60-second video of her achievement played at full volume on the big screens to over
70,000 fans.
As the video ended, Suzi Swoop O’Brien of Peoples Health and selection committee member
Jake Manship presented Mason-Guillory with a Peoples Health Champions medal and trophy.
The presentation was shown live on the big screens to the cheers and applause of fans.
“It was a once-in-a-lifetime, magical moment of recognition for the St. Landry Parish Veterans
Memorial,” Mason-Guillory said.
