The Retired Educators Association of St. Landry Parish held their annual black history program by honoring their five honorees for 2025. Opening comments were given by Dr.Savoynne Williams, REA president. Master of Ceremonies Lorena Chavis began the program by introducing Cabot Ballard who led the opening prayer. Oradel Hines gave the welcome followed by the singing of the Black National Anthem “Lift Every Voice.” Introducing the honorees were Annie LaFontaine, James Auzenne, Elsie Semien, Stephen Fruge and Melanie Chavis. 2005 honorees are Mary J. Rideau, CSM Darrell Minixm, Alderman Marvin Richard, Ethel Johnson and Chief Graig LeBlanc.
