Prospective District 40 representative candidate Joey Richard spent the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, supporting an initiative that reached out to 20 senior citizens who reside within the District.
Richard and his task force delivered food bags to the elderly in Opelousas, Washington, Sunset and Lawtell, individuals who Richard says are “the backbone of our communities.”
Assistance for the distribution event came from the United Way and Benny’s Supermarket in Opelousas, according to Richard.
“We aren’t delivering just groceries. We are delivering a message that our seniors are seen and appreciated,” Richard said.
