The St. Landry Parish District Attorney’s Office was awarded the prestigious statewide “Leaders in Law Enforcement Award” given by the Community Foundation of Acadiana in Lafayette on Tuesday. During a reception the annual state-wide award was presented to a selected District Attorney, Sheriff and State Police Troop.

St. Landry Parish District Attorney Chad Pitre’s office was recognized for its successful convictions, courtroom efficiency and a reduction of backlog cases. Additionally, Pitre’s office created a strong relationship with law enforcement within the parish. Attorney General Jeff Landry presented the award to Pitre and acknowledged his team’s commitment to law enforcement and the criminal justice system.

“It’s humbling to win such a prestigious award” said Pitre. “Our team of felony prosecutors are some of the best in Louisiana and our felony support staff and investigators are exceptional.”

Pitre said his office will continue to prioritize violent felony cases, strengthen relationships with law enforcement and support crime victims here in St. Landry Parish. The District Attorney Mentoring Program and the Second Chance Program were also instrumental with his office receiving this award.

The Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Department took the top sheriffs award and the Louisiana State Police, Force Investigation Unit was given the top State Police award. Along with the recognition each recipient received a $40,000 gift to be used in furtherance of public safety.

The Leaders in Law Enforcement Awards are designed to honor those departments that are making the most impact in their communities with the resources they have been allocated.
