According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office recently purchased two narcotic detector K-9s to concentrate on the drug carriers who use our back roads to avoid major interstates.”
On June 6, 2023, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Team was conducting criminal patrol operations within our parish. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a white SUV after the vehicle was observed making a traffic infraction. Deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle and sole occupant, later identified as Bryant Cain. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, which yielded 190 MDMA pills, 35 ½ pounds of marijuana and a black CD Defense model PAK-9 9mm pistol containing one vertical foregrip. Due to the weapon containing the foregrip, this made the weapon illegal. Deputies learned after running a criminal history on Cain that he was a CONVICTED FELON.
The estimated street value of the illegal narcotics seized is valued at approximately $162,920.00.
Bryant Cain was placed under arrest, transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked on the following charges: Improper lane usage, possession with the intent to distribute schedule I CDS (ecstasy), possession with the intent to distribute schedule I CDS (marijuana), possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS, possession or dealing in unregistered or illegal transferred weapons, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz is committed to re-investing seized assets to use and combating the sales and distribution of illegal narcotics as promised.
Sheriff Guidroz added, “I want to take this opportunity to thank our very professional and proactive narcotics team for their dedication to removing illegal drugs and illegal drug dealers from our communities.”
