On Thursday, September 15, 2022 at approximately 10:15 AM the Opelousas Police Department responded to a shots fired call in the area of East St. and Leo St. Upon further investigation it was determined that a Silver Pickup Truck and a Black Sedan were involved in the discharging of shots in the area. Fortunately no one was injured as a result of the shooting. The Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts was temporarily placed on lockdown due to the close proximity of the incident to the school campus. As the investigation continued officers received information that a confrontation had occurred at a business in the 700blk of E. Landry St. involving the previously described vehicles the shooting. Officers were ultimately able to identify all parties involved in the incidents. Mr. Brandon Lewis age: 24 of 126 Nicole Ln Opelousas, La. surrendered himself to authorities after he was identified as the person who fired several rounds at a vehicle that was occupied by (2) adult males that was struck multiple times. Mr. Brandon Lewis was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:

  1. Felon in possession of a firearm 
  2. Illegal use weapons or dangerous Instrumentalities
  3. Aggravated Criminal damage to Property
  4. Terrorizing

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
