According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On April 25, 2022, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the 1200 block of Highway 178 in the Opelousas area in regards to monetary instrument abuse.”
Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the victim, who stated that a family member, who is also his legal financial power of attorney, notified him of several transactions from his credit card accounts totaling $30,000. The victim stated that Amanda Briscoe has been employed as his caretaker for the past 5 years due to his disabilities.
Upon further investigation by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives, it was learned that several transactions were made to online companies between the dates of July 18, 2020 through February 17, 2022, including a transaction to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries for a hunting license application. The hunting license was purchased by Bryan Charles Vidrine during November 2021.
After further communication between detectives and the financial institution, it was also determined that $18,000 has been credited to the total amount of $30,000 and $12,000 worth of unauthorized transactions was left in arrears.
Upon questioning by detectives, Bryan Charles Vidrine stated he used Amanda Briscoe’s phone for the purchase of a hunting license and the card information was stored on Amanda Briscoe’s phone.
On August 18, 2022, Bryan Charles Vidrine was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with exploitation of the infirmed.
Upon questioning by detectives, Amanda Briscoe stated that the victim’s credit card is programmed into her phone due to making purchases for the victim in the past. Amanda Briscoe stated that she did not remember the charges that were made and she did not think the victim’s card information was still programmed in her phone and household members used her phone for purchases, using her card information.
On August 19, 2022, Amanda Renee Briscoe was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail and charged with exploitation of the infirmed.
