Opelousas General Health System recently celebrated its 1000th Mako case! Dr. David Clause and Dr. Phillip Bacilla of WellSmart Health Orthopaedic Clinic recently performed the 1000th surgery using the specialized Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology. This minimally invasive procedure is used for partial and total knee replacements as well as total hip replacements and provides a more accurate placement and alignment of the implant compared to traditional joint replacement surgery. It is yet another example of how OGHS is raising the bar to provide the highest level of quality care to the patients we serve. We recently celebrated this momentous occasion with our 1000th Mako patient, Mr. Daniel Lyons! He shared his Mako experience with us.
Mr. Lyons received two full knee replacement surgeries from Dr. David Clause after his wife recommended OGHS to him following her own knee surgery. When asked about his experience, he said, “it was a great experience. I do not have pain in my knees for the first time in 15 years. I am very grateful for the work that Dr. Clause did on me.” Mr. Lyons stated that the patient education from the nurses and Dr. Clause was “all so clear and helpful and put my mind at ease.”
The nature of Mr. Lyons’ work is very labor intensive. He works as a cattleman and dairy farmer at his Lyons Den Farm where he also raises quarter horses and manages hay baling. He is typically on his feet, walking all day. He says that now after his Mako knee replacement surgeries with Dr. Clause, his life has vastly improved and his knee pain has greatly diminished which makes his day-to-day working life so much easier. Mr. Lyons says it “feels like, where are my knees? I can walk now and it feels like I am walking on clouds.”
Mr. Lyons wants everyone to know that you do not have to go outside of this community for a knee or hip replacement surgery when there is such good technology and staff here at OGHS. Mr. Lyons states that he “100% recommends Opelousas General Health System. They did a heck of a job taking care of me and the nurses and staff were tremendous.”
He says if you are having knee or hip pain and are eligible for surgery just do it. “Don’t wait, you will regret not getting it done sooner like I did. The pain relief is incredible.”
