According to Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz, “On May 11, 2022, St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents were conducting highway interdiction on Interstate 49 and stopped two separate vehicles which resulted in arrests for drugs and weapons.”
Agents conducted a traffic stop on a 2020 Nissan Altima and came into contact with the driver Drake Batiste and the passenger Markaylon Chaisson. A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle which yielded 4 ounces (115 grams) of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine and a Smith & Wesson handgun along with $913.00 in cash. The suspected estimated street value of the Crystal Methamphetamine is approximately $2,300.00. Batiste and Chaisson were subsequently arrested on drug charges and a weapon violation.
On another unrelated traffic stop and within minutes apart, the agents conducted a second traffic stop on Interstate 49 on a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. The agents came into contact with the driver Devon Mayon. A probable cause search was conducted on the vehicle which yielded 1,271 MDMA pills, 2.3 ounces (66 grams) of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine, 11.4 ounces (324 grams) of suspected Synthetic Marijuana and $600.00 of cash. The total estimated street value of the illegal narcotics is approximately $5,133.00.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz added, “I will continue to have narcotic agents work all roads entering St. Landry in order to combat the transportation of drugs into our parish.”
