Port Barre High School and the entire St. Landry Parish School District community are mourning the loss of Mrs. Summer Le, a veteran teacher of Exceptional Student Services (ESS) at Port Barre High School. Mrs. Le passed away on April 7, 2024.
Summer was a native of Port Barre and a resident of Garland. She was an active member of the community and helped with many local benefits. She also proudly served as a dedicated member and treasurer for the nonprofit organization, the Gumbo Foundation, over the last 15 years.
Summer was a special needs teacher for many years, always having such grace and patience. She was so proud of the accomplishments her students would make and was always their greatest cheerleader.
“The entire St. Landry Parish community is grieving this immeasurable loss,” said Superintendent Batiste. “Mrs. Le’s dedication to our ESS students and families exemplified the very best in educating every child. She will be dearly missed.”
Honoring the Life of Summer
Mrs. Le was a radiant presence at Port Barre High, greeting students each morning with her warm smile and infectious energy. She was a passionate advocate, fiercely devoted to uplifting and supporting anyone in need of guidance or assistance. Her boisterous spirit and boundless compassion left an indelible mark on the lives she touched.
Mrs. Le was an avid outdoors person. She loved to hunt and enjoyed time at her camp. Her family, friends, and the community as a whole are truly impacted by this huge loss.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Le whom she was married to for 19 years and their son Brennen Matthew Le.
Funeral services will be held at Melancon Funeral Home in Arnaudville on Friday. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. Friday, until service time. A rosary will be prayed at 11:30am and mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00pm.

The Gumbo Foundation has been committed to coordinating family-oriented events that provide support to families in the local community, particularly those with ill children, while also being a resource to other individuals, groups, and organizations looking to help others.
