On Monday night just after 10:00 P.M. Opelousas Police were called to the area of Academy and Laurent St. in reference to a shooting being reported at that location. Upon arrival officers discovered that an adult female victim had suffered from a non-life threating injury after a vehicle that she was sitting in was struck by several rounds of gun fire. It was not clear if the victim had actually be struck by gunshots or injured by shrapnel from gunshots striking the vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries. It was reported that the shots may have been fired from a vehicle passing in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
