Opelousas Police Department Responds to Aggravated Assault with Firearm; Multiple Arrests Made
Opelousas, LA – On May 18, 2023, at approximately 1:14 PM, officers from the Opelousas Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to an aggravated assault with a firearm complaint in the 1700 block of Ross Street. Upon arrival and subsequent investigation, officers determined that a male suspect had pointed a firearm at a female victim before fleeing to a nearby residence and handing the weapon to another male subject. Officers made contact with eight male individuals at the residence, all of whom initially denied any knowledge of the incident.
A search warrant was obtained and executed at 1729 Ross Street. During the search, officers recovered five handguns, one Draco firearm, several grams of marijuana, digital scales, plastic bags, a drum magazine, and a bottle of promethazine.
The following individuals were arrested and charged:
17-year-old male (name withheld due to age): Obstruction of Justice
Mikel Jones, 20-year-old Black Male: Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Obstruction of Justice
James Malveaux, 21-year-old Black Male: Obstruction of Justice
Darren Johnson Jr., 27-year-old Black Male: Obstruction of Justice, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) (3 counts), Possession of Schedule I Drugs
Qwadadrian Fields, 19-year-old Black Male: Obstruction of Justice, Possession of Schedule I Drugs
Shane Castille, 20-year-old Black Male: Obstruction of Justice
Aaron Savoy, 18-year-old Black Male: Obstruction of Justice
Davaska Savoy, 25-year-old Black Male: Obstruction of Justice, Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Drugs, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS
