Update:
One arrest has been made in connection to the shooting that occurred at about 3:30 P.M. in the 400 Blk. of W. Bellevue St. 34 year old Joshua Richard of Opelousas was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following charges:
- Attempted Second Degree Murder (Five Counts),
- Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities,
- Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm
- Illegal Carrying of Weapons (In the presence of CDS).
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and more arrest are possible. The shooting ultimately was a result of a contentious co-parenting dispute. Both victims remain hospitalized for serious injuries.

Original Story – Shooting on West Bellevue Street
Opelousas Police are currently on the scene of a shooting that occurred in the 400 Blk. of West Bellevue St. The shooting evolved from an argument over child custody. As a result (2) adult male victims were struck by gunfire. Ambulances responded to the scene and transported both victims to a local hospital with critical to serious injuries. The investigation is active and several witnesses are being interviewed at this time. More details will be released as they become available.
